I graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz with a degree in Environmental Geology, my favorite part being the detailed mapping, field sketching and drawing stratigraphic columns. I spent the next three years working for an environmental consulting company, taking art classes and sailing as much as possible on San Francisco Bay. I received my Graduate Certificate in Science Illustration from California State University Monterey Bay, and started working as a freelance scientific illustrator.

I've already put my background in geology to good use working for the Integrated Ocean Drilling Program. I was the onboard scientific illustrator for a seven week scientific drilling expedition off the west coast of Costa Rica. It was a fantastic experience and I hope to find more unique opportunities like this in the future.
